Frank RomanoFrank Romano, Keynote Speaker

Ask the leading print experts who they look up to and one name comes up again and again: Frank Romano. He's the mastermind behind the industry's indispensable Pocket Pal. The editor of the definitive Encyclopedia of Graphic Communication. The author of 44 books, including the first works on Quark, InDesign, PDF, digital printing, multi-media and more. He has started nine magazines, written more than 4,000 articles and his writing has been translated into Russian, Chinese, Arabic, French, German and Spanish.

After many years in publishing, Frank joined RIT as a visiting professor. The one-year appointment turned into 14 years. He began the world's first online Master of Science degree in printing and pioneered new curriculum in digital printing and workflow.

Today, as RIT Professor Emeritus, he travels the world (by car, train and ship because he does not fly) and lectures extensively. He has spoken before almost every club, association, and organization in the graphic arts. He also teaches every quarter at RIT. He taught two courses last winter at Cal Poly in California. He is teaching a distance course right now at NYU. He gives presentations in Australia, Germany, Sweden, Iceland, and other places using video transmission.

What's the best way to know who Frank Romano is? Try Googling him. There are 6 million hits, but you have to get through the Australian motivational speaker, the karate master, and the tattoo artist first. You discover a body of work that reveres the history of the industry and looks to its future. He wrote the first report on on-demand printing in 1978 and promoted most of the new technologies of the industry long before they were new.

Frank has been quoted in almost every major newspaper, on radio and TV, and the trade press. He has contributed to the graphic communication industry by educating students and users and publishers and printers and creatives - and anyone else involved in the printed word and the pixel word.

He began in the age of hot metal and now works in the age of heavy metal. When it comes to printing and publishing, Frank Romano has been there, done that. Today, he works smack dab at the juncture of the wide web press and the world wide web.

His insights matter - perhaps more than anyone else in the industry.
